Categories of TV Channels in India
The Government of India categorizes TV channels into two main categories:
News & Current Affairs
Non-News & Current Affairs
Any content other than news, such as sports, religious, entertainment, and movies, falls under the Non-News & Current Affairs category.
TV Channel Registration License Requirements
To operate a Non-News and Current Affairs (Movie TV) channel in India, you need a TV channel license from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The required documents for obtaining this license are:
Processing Fee: Rs. 10,000/- at the time of application
Company Registration: Must be registered under the Companies Act 1956
Company Net Worth Certificate: Rs. 5.00 Cr. signed by an auditor/CA
Audited Balance Sheet
Satellite Bandwidth and Uplinking Agreement: With a teleport service provider
Project Report: Of the channel/company
Full Details of Directors
Performance Bank Guarantee: Rs. 1.00 Cr. each
Channel Annual Uplink Fee: Rs. 2.00 Lacs (at the time of LOI)
Channel Downlink Fee: Rs. 5.00 Lacs per annum per channel (at the time of LOI)
